3D Printing

The craft vertical: additive manufacturing from workbench to operatory. Printers, resins, accuracy targets, and everything I broke learning it.

Questions I actually get asked

Which 3D printer should a dental clinic start with?

Start with a mid-range resin printer from a vendor with dental-validated workflows, not the cheapest machine. Budget as much for the wash-and-cure station and calibration tools as for the printer itself.

Are 3D-printed surgical guides accurate enough?

Yes, when the whole chain is validated: scan quality, design software, printer calibration, resin choice, and post-processing. Any weak link degrades accuracy, which is why I validate dimensionally every month.

Can I print dental models with a hobby printer?

For study models and demonstration, absolutely. For anything clinical, use biocompatible certified resins and a validated workflow. The printer matters less than the process around it.
